Entry #3 Fresh Bites

Food. One of the many necessities for human life. Many take for granted the food that is processed through their bodies. Most never take a second to enjoy the moment and experience the meal they are consuming.

The sun is setting after a long day in the sun. Freshly showered after a day at the beach. A slight sunburn on the skin making the body cold and tired. It is dinner time and the sun has drained all energy from the body. But, you get ready anyways because dinner is around the corner. As you arrive the smell of surf and turf floats through the air and into your nose. The smell is overwhelming and your stomach starts to rumble. As you senses heighten with every breath, you sit at the table and finally are able to consume your meal.
The taste of seafood is lingering in your mouth. The butter, salt, and garlic linger on the tongue. It is almost like you never stopped chewing. The bright red lobster that fell apart from its shell like it had never been attached at all is envisioned on your plate. The overwhelming sense of the delicious meal are too much, you need something to get the wonderful meal out of your head, so as to not spend more money on more food you cannot eat any more of.

There is the perfect solution. One that is crisp, refreshing, and lite. You begin to walk over to the front of the establishment and grab a treat from the bowl on the host stand. The crinkle of the wrapper is quiet as the room is filled with joy of the meals to come and the experiences had while enjoying the time spent there. Still, the wrapper is all you can think of. Until, the red and white stripes are revealed. The smell of freshness and relief from the lingering flavors of dinner excite you. As a pop is heard from those in close proximity the treat is in your mouth. It is a shock at first, but a refreshing one. The mouth begins to salivate more and more as your treat dissolves. The lingering taste from dinner is slowly fading away. The treat is hard so you continue to suck on it until it is smaller then a bead on a bracelet. Before a thought can occur on weather to swallow, crush it with your teeth, or continue to suck on the treat until it is completely dissolved-your treat is gone.  You are content. The remnants of dinner have faded away and are stored in the brain as a positive and wonderful experience. The treat has accomplished its task to satisfy the last of your needs at dinner. The night is complete and you head back to the hotel full and tired.

  1. The way you describe the sights, smells, and tastes makes it feel like I’m right there, enjoying the meal and the refreshing treat afterward. The transition from the richness of dinner to the crisp relief of the mint is so satisfying to read. This piece beautifully captures the simple joys of food and the little moments that make a meal memorable!
